Privacy Policy

This policy explains what BudgetPulse (“we”, “the app”) collects, why, and the control you have over it. Our guiding principle is to collect as little as possible and to keep your financial data yours. For a plain-language summary, see Your data & security.

What we collect

• Account details: your email address, an optional name, and a one-way hash of your password.
• Financial data you enter: transactions, categories, budgets, financial goals, recurring payments, and your app preferences (currency, theme, etc.).
• Imported statements: if you upload a bank/card statement file, its contents are parsed into transactions. We never ask for your online-banking login and do not connect to your bank on your behalf.
• Product analytics: a small set of first-party events (e.g. signup, login, adding a transaction) used to measure activation and retention.
• Operational logs: standard server logs needed to run and secure the service.

What we do not do

• We do not ask for or store your online-banking credentials.
• We do not sell your personal data.
• We do not embed third-party advertising or cross-site tracking scripts.

How we use your data

• To provide the core service: recording, categorising, and reporting on your finances.
• To generate insights, forecasts, budget recommendations, and (if you enable them) notifications.
• To secure your account and prevent abuse.
• To understand, in aggregate, whether the product is useful and where to improve it.

Optional features

Some features process additional data only if you choose to use them — for example the Telegram bot (messages you send it), receipt scanning (images you upload), and AI-assisted insights. You can avoid these by not enabling them.

Where your data lives

Your data is stored in a hosted PostgreSQL database and transmitted over encrypted (HTTPS) connections. We use reputable infrastructure providers to run the service.

Your rights

• Access & portability: download your entire account as JSON from Export my data.
• Correction: edit or delete any transaction or setting at any time.
• Erasure: delete your account from Delete account, which removes your personal data from our database.

Data retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your personal records are removed. Aggregated analytics that no longer identify you may be retained to understand overall product trends.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we will update the date above. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
